KAFU Shines at Kisii University Research Week: e-Graduation Platform Bags Bronze
A Commitment to Sustainable Innovation
Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) has once again reaffirmed its strategic commitment to advancing research, innovation, and intellectual property awareness on a national stage. Recently, a KAFU delegation participated in the highly anticipated inaugural Research and Innovation Week hosted by Kisii University.
The event, running under the theme "Co-creating Sustainable Future Through Interdisciplinary Research, Green Innovation and Community Impact," gathered top researchers, innovators, and exhibitors from diverse institutions across the country to showcase solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The KAFU delegation was proudly led by Dr. Victor Shikuku, Director of Research and Innovation, alongside Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye and Ms. Dorothy Wafula. Together, they demonstrated KAFU's strong interdisciplinary engagement through groundbreaking innovations spanning Chemistry, Information Technology, and Physics.

The Importance of Intellectual Property (IP)
A key highlight of the week's engagement was a vital sensitization session on Intellectual Property (IP) awareness.
During the session, participants were urged to adopt proactive IP management practices. The discussions emphasized patenting, copyright protection, and the meticulous documentation of innovations. For KAFU, this session reinforced a core institutional belief: Intellectual Property is a strategic asset essential for safeguarding research outputs and maximizing their commercialization potential.
The Standout Innovation: iGLMS (e-Graduation Platform)
The crown jewel of KAFU’s showcase was presented by Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye: the Integrated Graduation Lifecycle Management System (iGLMS), widely branded as the e-Graduation Platform.
Developed through a powerful collaboration between Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye, Prof. Kelvin Kabeti Omieno, Dr. Emily Mokeira Okwemba, and Dr. Victor Odhiambo Shikuku, this system is a centralized digital solution designed to modernize the university exit process.
Key Features of the e-Graduation Platform include:
-
Automated clearance verification workflows.
-
Seamless graduation invitation management.
-
Issuance of secure electronic graduation cards.
-
Streamlined alumni transition and data tracking.
The iGLMS attracted significant attention from attendees and judges alike for its immense potential to eliminate administrative inefficiencies, improve data accuracy, and streamline graduation workflows within higher learning institutions.

🥉 Securing the Bronze in Information Technology
The technical merit and competitive edge of the e-Graduation Platform did not go unrewarded. Out of a highly competitive pool of tech solutions, the iGLMS emerged in 3rd Position in the Information Technology Category.
To celebrate this outstanding innovation, Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye was presented with a medal, marking a moment of immense pride for the KAFU iiHub and the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT).

Looking Forward: Strengthening Institutional Capacity
Building on these fantastic engagements at Kisii University, Kaimosi Friends University has reiterated its commitment to strengthening its research commercialization frameworks and its institutional capacity in IP management.
Through platforms like the KAFU iiHub and dedicated research leadership, the University continues to position itself as a highly competitive, forward-thinking player within Kenya’s rapidly evolving research and innovation ecosystem.
